Feline Leukemia Virus in Cats(FeLV)

A retrovirus causing immunosuppression, lymphoma, and anemia. Spread through close contact with infected cats (grooming, shared food bowls).

  • Secondary infections due to immunosuppression
  • Anemia
  • Lymphoma development
  • Weight loss
  • Fever

Causes

  • Contact with FeLV-infected cats
  • Mother-to-kitten transmission
  • Transmission via saliva or blood

Treatment

  • Supportive care (treat secondary infections)

Prognosis

Persistent infection averages 2-3 years survival, but varies widely. Early detection and proper management can extend life significantly.
